Hamilton Transportation Club 2023
We march proudly and enthusiastically toward our 100th anniversary in 2025! The Hamilton Transportation Club has been around since 1925. Originally called the “Shippers’ Business Club of Hamilton”. The original Constitution and By-Laws are dated November 12, 1925. In January of 1927 a meeting was held which, according to the minutes, was for “the purpose of reorganizing the Club and changing its name to the “Traffic Club of Hamilton”. It was felt by the Executives that, in view of the success of the Club, even better results could be obtained by increasing the field of membership to include all those in the industry connected with the Traffic or Sales Departments, together with Railway, Cartage, Transport and Steamship representatives. On November 14, 2019 we held a sold-out Annual Dinner at the beautiful Liuna Station in Hamilton with our special guest speaker Wendel Clark of Toronto Maple Leaf Fame. Our future looked bright. Our fantastic sponsors of this event including Trailer Wizards, Moore Brothers, GFL, Jonker Trucking, Samuel Steel/KIMTAM, DLL Financial Solutions, Lead Pedal Podcast, Verduyn Tarps, Titan Trailer Sales, Peel Financial and RIMS Transport were a big part of our success. With funds raised at our various events, we were able to write cheques and donate to McMaster Children’s Hospital, T.E.A.D (The Equestrian Association for the Disabled), and The Good Shepherd. We were busy planning our spring Networking Event and our 2020 Golf Tournament when were faced with the Covid-19 outbreak. Stop. Full stop! This unprecedented situation put all our meetings and events on hold. As a club that focused on 3 to 4 social events per year for the benefit of our members and guests, we were faced with no choice but to suspend activities until the “Pandemic” had passed. No one on the board could have predicted how long that would take. The Hamilton Transportation Club has donated many thousands of dollars to local charities over the years but that too was put on hold until we could resume meeting, planning and having events. In the Fall of 2023, we regrouped and started again with a very successful and well attended Networking Event which we held at the beautiful Croatian Sports and Community Centre on Hamilton Mountain. Everyone I talk to is positive and supportive of the Club continuing on its mission to provide social events that include guest speakers, networking opportunities and fun experiences to socialize with like-minded individuals in the transportation and related industries. Everyone appreciates the community support that the donated funds provide. We will start 2023 with a bang on May 4, 2023 at the Waterfront Banquet Centre through our “Spring Address” with 2 great presenters. Heather Grondin, VP of Corporate Affairs and External Relations from the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority will bring us up to speed on the progress of the “The Gordie Howe Bridge” in Windsor and Mr. Norm Schleehahn, Director Economic Development City of Hamilton will provide a “What’s happening” economically in the Greater Hamilton area. In closing I want to sincerely give thanks to all past HTC Board members during my time as President who contributed their time and talents to get us to this point. Specifically, I want to acknowledge Andrea Mattina, Heather Roper, Alec Sinclair, Louisa McAlpine, Dan Glover, Ash Massey, Will Deng, Margaret Hogg and Rita Giachini. If I missed anyone, I apologize profusely. Please browse through our website at HamiltonTransportationClub.com for further details, sponsorship and ticketing info and plan to attend this exciting event. C’mon, join the club! Sincerely, Gene Emslie President President@Hamiltontransportationclub.com
